Cornstarch and pressure. It will stop on its own eventually. Unless your dog has a blood clotting disorder, it will be okay.

It is easy to accidentally cut the quick, especially if the nail is dark colored. If it won't stop and it's that bad, the only option I know of is septic stick or powder. When I have messed up, it's only bled for a minute or two.
Cornstarch works best, but flour will do in a pinch. Give doggie a big hug---ouch!

how bad is it bleeding? If it wont quit within a few minutes of applied pressure to paw and it is really cut short, you may need to see a vet because it could lead to SERIOUS blood loss.





Do NOTsoak it in water because you want the blood to clot and water will make it bleed more by keepping the blood thin at the opening.





If it isn't so bad then just wrap a paper towel or napkin around it and the bleeding should stop soon.

Next time try to trim smaller sections at a time or buy a dremel tool to grind the nails like I do. They file the nails down slowly so you can watch how close you're getting to the quick .Good Luck !

Cornstarch is an inexpensive and easy way to stop the bleeding and get the blood to clot. Also, if you're in a place where it's cold, you can put your dog out for a few minutes and the snow and cold will also clot it up pretty quickly.
You can use flour for this, seriously, it will stop the bleeding and it will cause not problems.
Thats one of the wort mistakes you could have made. That is one of the most painful things to a dog. If you cared about her/him you should have taken her to a groomer! Or take her there in the future!
That is a common mistake! The first time we cut my pups nails he squired just as we were going to cut the first one and it started bleeding, we simply put a papertowel over it and applied pressure to clot the blood and gave him lots of praise for being such a good puppy .
