What do I put on a dog nail to make it stop bleeding?

steptic pencil in powder form.

gentle pressure. -!-What do I put on a dog nail to make it stop bleeding?
use the styptic powder or corn starch on the nail to absorb the blood and get the nail to stop bleeding.

Once you put on the powder, apply pressure on the bottom of the nail to clog up the nail and reduce the blood flow. This will take you to actually hold the nail for a few minutes.

Wrap the foot in a soft towel allowing the nail to not touch anything and the blood to clot up and stop bleeding.

Once the blood has stopped, then you will need the dog to stay off the foot for at least 20 minutes. Getting up and prancing around will cause it to start bleeding again. It is recommended to put a bandage on the foot for the rest of the day. What do I put on a dog nail to make it stop bleeding?
The most common way to stop a nail from bleeding is to get a styptic pencil. You can find them at most pet stores. If you don't have one, then you can put some flour or corn starch where the nail is bleeding. Next time, if you are going to be the one who trims your dog's nails, get a styptic pencil and store it where you keep the nail trimmer. Good luck. Hope I helped.
There are QuickStop pads you can buy at a local pet store, but stypic powder or pencils also work. Flour will also work, though it's a little messy.

If you don't have anything to put on it, just keep him or her in a small room for a little while, and try not to let her walk too much on it, or it will start bleeding again. Though it's painful to her, she can't lose enough blood to hurt her.
Quick Stop, corn starch, all of the other suggestions are good. I found that dipping the bleeding nail in a small shallow bowl is which ever substance you choose to use gets a good, thick dollop on the nail. I then put my finger on the blob and apply pressure to help coagulation. Again it is best to confine the dog for a short period to make sure the nail doesn't start bleeding again.
stypic powder/ styptic powder (sp?)

It clots the blood and stops the bleeding. Put some on the nail where it is bleeding and press it there for 30 seconds. It works fast. I use Kwik Stop brand and it works great. You can get it at just about any pet supply store.
You can use corn starch or flour....or you can just get a paper towel wet w/ice water and hold the foot up in the air w/the dog on it's back and hold the cold towel on the nail for a few minutes...it will stop bleeding. Just gradually let up on the pressure on the nail.
Cornstarch. You can use flour, as well, but it doesn't work as good. Just a suggestion...The next time you go to your local pet supply store, pick up a container of a product called ';Kwik Stop'; Styptic Powder. It works great and is a product that all dog owners should have on hand. (Not expensive)
If you clip a dogs nail to far up you cut a small sensitive spot called the quip. Just let the nails grow and don't do it again (it is painful for them).
if you don't have quick stop, use sugar, if you can find a spider web that would be best.make a ball and apply to nail. Believe it or not webs stop bleeding fast.
cornstarch works well. the medicine that you buy can sting and it's uncomfortable for them.
Dunk it in flour or corn starch.

Septic powder works but can stain floors or furniture, flour is cheaper and easier
you can use baby powder or corn starch as well...
